I wrote this poem some time back, quickly and without much thought. It’s a piece I wrote straight after college, as I was beginning to set out from the quiet and quaint town of Valparaiso to understand the meaning of words in action.
It was how I felt my interactions with others would be, and the goal of the interactions for the development of self. I have recently found that this to still be an appropriate word-expression of how I come forward into the world.
So I share it now to give both an understanding of how I come forward in the world, and to inspire thought.
A single thought has a proclivity to cascade behind the scenes of a persons’ mind and bring forward new ways of being.
There are two parts.
Part 1 – A way of being
I ride the wave of time.
I sway with the current.I play with the forces.
I sink with the weight.I move towards the light.
I grow from the darkness.I merge with the enigma.
I become one.
Part 2 – The instrumental nature of interaction
Exploration of this school, Earth, occurs with experience.
Experience is our greatest teacher and our ruling center.
My center needs to be aligned. My center is altered with the Other, the people.
My center is exposed and scrutinized by the Other, the people.
My center rests on the experience from this school, Earth.
Sound Piece
This sound, Lamp Mien by Deaf Center, resonates as I think about the poem. I certainly cannot recall the musical inspiration to the piece from years ago, however as I reflect now on the nature of the poem, I feel this is appropriate to share with it.
The almost foreboding feel of ill mixed with the periodic ascending tone gives a feel of both the potential dark and the potential light that comes forward from any experience. The echoing, blinking gong rings a backdrop that shakes our center consistently, reminiscent of the age-old temple instruments that facilitated an alteration of consciousness through chants and sound. With the crackling texture piercing through ostensibly, we have the makings of a song that inspires premonitions of the future while sitting in a secluded cave in deep reflection.
